Call for Papers: 2024 British Association of Comparative Law (BACL) annual postgraduate workshop

Institute of European and Comparative Law at the University of Oxford is pleased to host the 2024 British Association of Comparative Law (BACL) annual postgraduate workshop. The workshop is open to PhD candidates at any stage of their research, from any part of the world, who work on any aspect of Comparative Law. The event will be held on Wednesday 22 May, and the morning of Thursday 23 May. The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to present work in progress, receive feedback on their work from leading comparative scholars, engage in networking activities, and include a session on publishing.

We are very pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be Justice Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo (https://www.scjn.gob.mx/ministro/jorge-mario-pardo-rebolledo) giving his lecture on the afternoon of Thursday 23 May. A buffet dinner will be held on Thursday evening with others from within Oxford, open to all involved without further payment.

Any PhD candidate wishing to present a paper at the workshop should submit an abstract (of 250 words) and a CV to Professor Matt Dyson care of the administrator of the IECL (administrator@iecl.ox.ac.uk). Please include “[your name] – BACL postgraduate workshop abstract” as the subject line for the email. The deadline for submissions is Friday 1 March 2024. Papers are welcome in any area of law, and using any methodology or approach, but papers must have a clear comparative focus. Students selected to present at the workshop will be advised on or before Friday 15 March 2024. A workshop programme, and registration information for
presenters and other attendees, will be released shortly thereafter.

The registration fee will be: £35 (for those with affiliation at BACL-member institutions); £45 (all others).
