Border Criminologies Project Highly Commended in Social Sciences Impact Awards 2025

The Faculty is delighted to share that the project Documenting human rights violations inside immigration detention settings, led by Andriani Fili, Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Criminology, and the team at Border Criminologies, has been Highly Commended in the Social Sciences Impact Awards. Many congratulations to Andriani and the Border Criminologies team on this recognition!

Their close collaboration over several years with Mobile Info Team and Border Violence Monitoring Network resulted in 'Detention Landscapes': an interactive, open-access database that evidences human rights violations in Greek immigration detention centres. Launched in April 2024 to extensive national media coverage in Greece, the database has already contributed to a successful legal appeal, as well as to the work of international human rights monitors and local civil society groups.

The 2025 Social Sciences Impact Awards celebrate social science colleagues of all career stages across the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University who are making significant contributions to society or the economy through meaningful collaboration with non-academic partners.
