Learning Technologist – INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

We are seeking to appoint a pro-active individual with a hands-on approach and recent experience of learning technologies and on-line delivery, preferably in a higher education setting.
This is an exciting new position arising out of necessity due to the pandemic. It will offer the right candidate the opportunity to help shape the new teaching, learning methods and technologies, with a view to support the strategic development of technology in the classroom, and on-line course delivery in the future.
Reporting to the Head of Administration and Finance in the Departments of Law and Economics, you will explore, evaluate, recommend and introduce appropriate technologies for face-to-face, hybrid and remote teaching, liaising closely with academic and support staff to ensure that new and existing technologies function well.
You will act as a central point of contact in helping teaching staff, and advise on devices and software best suited to their teaching needs and practices. In parallel, you will work closely with the University’s education and learning technology team, University IT Services, and the Social Sciences ‘Information, Technology and Services Group’ (‘ITSG’) in supporting, progressing and sharing best practice in relation to remote teaching, lecture capture and delivery, and other digital learning and learning technologies.
To be successful in this role, you will be educated to degree level and demonstrate an ability to support the use of technology for teaching and learning in a Higher Education environment. This includes the experience of supporting the use of digital learning platforms equivalent to Zoom, Teams, Canvas, Panopto. You will also be familiar with LaTeX, PDF presentation, and PDF annotation softwares and be skilled in using Microsoft Office, including OneNote and PowerPoint in an academic environment.
You will possess highly effective interpersonal skills and strong presentation skills, including the ability to interact with people with a variety of levels of technical expertise. You will demonstrate strong team working skills combined with the ability to work independently, and plan and prioritise effectively in order to meet deadlines
An awareness of the issues influencing learning and teaching within Higher Education is essential, as is the ability to pre-emptively anticipate teaching requirements of academic staff and deliver easy-to-use, reliable tech solutions.
Due to the nature of the role, an on-site presence will be essential.
Familiarity with a range of audio-visual hardware solutions in a teaching environment is desirable. Some experience of teaching in the higher education sector would be an advantage.
This post is full-time and fixed-term for 12 months.
