All research students (MPhil/DPhil) working on human rights law at Oxford are warmly invited to the first session of the Bonavero Graduate Research Forum in the Gilly Leventis Meeting Room at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights on Tuesday 15 October 4:15-5:45 pm. After the meeting, we will have a social event from 5:45pm-7pm in the Lower Atrium at Bonavero. Wine, refreshments and nibbles will be provided.

The meeting will be an opportunity to meet the team, make new connections with fellow students and faculty members, learn about our plans for the year, and find out how to get involved.

During the second part of our session, Professor Başak Çalı (Head of Research at Bonavero Institute of Human Rights) will deliver our first skills masterclass of the year, focusing on the issue of research methodology in human rights law. Professor Çalı will discuss how we make and justify methodological choices, the relationship between the research question and the methods employed, and the relationship between research methodology and contribution to the literature we seek to make in our research.  She will do so through ‘a hands-on approach’, tracing her methodological steps in a recent paper. The reading of the full paper, which will be distributed ahead of the session, is encouraged, but not required.

About the Bonavero Graduate Research Forum:
The purpose of the Bonavero Graduate Research Forum is to foster a strong, student-led and supportive community of legal researchers working in the broadly defined field of human rights law. It presents an opportunity to share work-in-progress and receive feedback from peers. We also organise workshops, which focus  on topics of interest to graduate researchers, including research methods, academic writing, and publishing. We meet fortnightly in term-time in the Gilly Leventis Meeting Room at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights (Mansfield College).
