Informational Public Interest
Jiawei Zhang (Technische Universität München)
The Future of Technology and Society Discussion Group is pleased to host Jiawei Zhang, who will present his paper on 'Informational Public Interest', recently published in the North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology.
In his article, Jiawei uses the lever of 'public interest' to move the world of information law. Jiawei researches the US's information law system and spots the tensions derived from fragmented readings of the concept of 'public interest' in different fields of information law. To mitigate these conflicts, Jiawei introduces a novel understanding - the Economically Conceptualised Informational Public Interest ('ECIPI') - as a higher governing principle to 'fine-tune' the US's information laws. Ultimately, his research establishes an analytical framework to reconcile the fragmented information law system, aiming to create a higher degree of harmony and consistency in judicial rulings and policy decisions.
