Abstract

Decolonising the Curriculum/ Academy / University initiatives have been ongoing for almost a decade in the UK. To what avail? Putting aside the capitalist ‘student success’ and ‘award mark’ metrics and modes of measurement, this paper ruminates on what it would look and feel like to approach pedagogy with love and hope. Going back to critical ancestral legacies from Freire to hooks, I explore how the ‘decolonial’ in UK academy needs to side-step inevitable institutional co-optation and recentre love as the impetus. I reflect on how rekindle itself through love can reconnect us with the radical roots of decoloniality that ultimately enable us to survive and thrive - within and beyond education - more on our own terms.
