Balliol College Four-Hour Stipendiary Lectureship in Law

Closing date: Thursday 01 August 2024, 12.00pm

Salary: £6,775-£7,185

Balliol College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint a stipendiary four-hour Lecturer in Criminal Law for Michaelmas Term 2024 and Hilary Term 2025 to cover a period of sabbatical leave. It carries with it no expectation of renewal.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four hours per week on average during term time. The person appointed will receive a stipend in the range of £6,775-£7,185 (subject to annual review), depending on experience. In addition, the Lecturer will be entitled to certain Senior Common Room rights, and will have access to a shared teaching room in College.

The Lecturer will provide tutorials and revision classes in Criminal Law. Details of this course can be found in the Faculty handbook.

The Lecturer will also be expected to assist with the administration of Law in Balliol (such as the setting and marking of college examinations at the start, and report meetings at the end, of term), with the pastoral care of students, and with assessment and interviewing connected with the undergraduate admissions exercise.

Applications containing a CV, a statement of teaching experience, and the names of two academic referees should be sent to college.office@balliol.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon on Thursday 1 August 2024. References will be taken up for shortlisted candidates; it would be helpful if at least one referee is able to comment on the candidate’s teaching experience and abilities. It is expected that interviews will be on Tuesday 3 September 2024.

Prospective applicants may contact Dr Grant Lamond, Tutor in Law (grant.lamond@balliol.ox.ac.uk), or the Senior Tutor, Dr Nicola Trott (senior.tutor@balliol.ox.ac.uk), for more details.

Balliol College is an equal opportunities employer.
