13th Annual Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot 2015
A record number of teams entered the annual Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot 2015 competition, which was held at the Faculty of Law and Pembroke College from 19 - 21 March 2015. As has been the case in previous years, participation in the oral rounds was by invitation on the basis of two written submissions prepared by teams wishing to compete. Following short-listing, 24 teams from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom competed at the oral rounds. Participants were also invited to a variety of related events including the IP Conversazione and Grand Final Dinner both held at Pembroke College.
The 2015 problem was set in the agricultural biotechnology sector and in particular raised issues in relation to breach of confidence, patent infringement, and the grounds for the award of an injunction. Marking of the submissions was conducted by a team of practitioners overseen by Catriona Smith of Rouse. Following a busy day of finals mooting on the Saturday, the grand finalists, National Law School of India University, (NLSIU), Bangalore and Monash University competed at Pembroke College in front of a panel comprised of Lord Justice Kitchin, Lord Justice Floyd and Mr Justice Birss. Both teams performed extremely well, with the National Law School of India University, (NLSIU), Bangalore prevailing.
We are very grateful to the Sponsors of the 2015 Moot: 8 New Square Chambers, Oxford University Press, Powell Gilbert, Boult Wade Tennant, Hart Publishing, Darts-IP, Edward Elgar Publishing, Cambridge University Press and Henry Carr QC.
