The Information and Media Leadership Programme for Legal Professionals and Policymakers (InfoLead) is a new programme at the Centre for Socio Legal Studies. InfoLead is grounded on the belief that by enhancing the digital media and information literacy skills of legal professionals, including members of the judiciary, and policymakers, we will strengthen their ability to respond to some of the greatest challenges in the information age. For example, to understand what tools are available and how citizens assess the trustworthiness of information accessed or shared through social media, to fully understand the growing role of AI and mechanisms that shape online interactions, and take part in the public debates in a meaningful way.
Over the last decade, there has been an acceleration of media and information leadership programmes, many of which have targeted young people and vulnerable communities. However, one crucial constituency that has been overlooked but has a significant impact on making rules about social media and addressing threats and opportunities platforms offer, is policymakers.
The InfoLead project in partnership with the University of Florence and the University of Helsinki, supported by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), including the Gulbenkian Foundation.
Over the course of the project, the team will be delivering a toolkit, an online simulator, a case studies book, and executive education programme.
The next executive course will happen 7-11 April 2025 in Oxford, UK. If you are a legal professional, including a member of the judiciary, a policymaker, or civil society or public sector member working directly with policymakers and are interested in participating in this course, please submit your application online before 11:59pm UK time on 1 March 2025.
