Call for Volunteer Researchers: Project on Sanctions and Reparations with the Ukraine Justice Alliance

Deadline date: 3 June 2022

Oxford Pro Bono Publico (OPBP) is looking for volunteers to assist with research for a project in collaboration with Ukraine Justice Alliance on the relationship between sanctions and reparations.

The Ukraine Justice Alliance seeks to create a legal framework for using property that has been seized pursuant to sanctions as reparations for international wrongs. This framework will be used to compile a manual of best practices, a statement of international law, or a set of draft principles, which the Ukraine Justice Alliance will then deploy in several follow-up projects. This project is being conducted with the support of the Ukrainian Bar Association. OPBP will be contributing to only a section of the overarching project.

Knowledge of public international law, the law of state responsibility, and the law of countermeasures are an advantage but not necessary. The role will be undertaken approximately between 5 June - 10 July 2022. Research for this project will approximately require 12-15 hours of your time.

If you are interested in volunteering, please send a CV to opbp@law.ox.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday, 3 June 2022. Please also mention in your e-mail any specific legal experience you may have that could be relevant to the project. If you have any further queries regarding the project, do get in touch with us at opbp@law.ox.ac.uk.
