Call for Volunteer Researchers - Disability Rights in Latin America

Deadline date: 8 April 2022

Oxford Pro Bono Publico (OPBP) is looking for volunteers to assist with research for a project in collaboration with Equal Rights Trust concerning Disability Rights in Latin America.

Equal Rights Trust (ERT) is supporting 'Fundación Saraki' to implement 'America Inclusiva', an ambitious project which aims to secure equality and non-discrimination in access to employment for persons with disabilities. ERT is seeking OPBP's help to produce a regional report on the legal and policy frameworks of the right to work for persons with disabilities in Latin America. The study will provide a comparative analysis of the legal and policy frameworks of various countries in the region, and a qualitative assessment of the strength and weaknesses of these frameworks, including challenges with enforcement, barriers to implementation and opportunities for improvement. The production and publication of this study is aimed at supporting and strengthening the capacity of DPOs in the region to effectively promote the implementation of international, regional and domestic legal frameworks and policies governing disability rights, including the right to non-discrimination and inclusion in employment.

The study will critically assess and analyse the legal, policy, institutional and enforcement framework on the rights to equality and non-discrimination for persons with disabilities in several countries in the region, including: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Panama, Peru, Uruguay.

Knowledge of the legal framework in these jurisdictions, knowledge of Español/Spanish, and/or previous experience with disability law are an advantage, but not necessary. The role is to be undertaken approximately between the 10 April - 15 May 2022. Research for this project will approximately require 10-12 hours of your time.

If you are interested in volunteering, please send a CV to opbp@law.ox.ac.uk as soon as possible, and no later than 8th April, Thursday 5pm. Please also mention in your e-mail any specific experience you may have that may be relevant to the project. If you have any further queries regarding the project , do get in touch at opbp@law.ox.ac.uk.
